Life was so much simpler when we were kids. No video games to play, tv to watch or ipad to see cartoons. Since there was no real entertainment at home, all the playing used to happen in the playgrounds.

When I look at our daily schedules now, life seems extremely busy and hectic. So busy that we forget to take care of our health and well being. As moms we forget to take care of ourselves first. That’s why I try to make a healthy recipe whenever I get a chance.

This apple beetroot and carrot detox juice is one such healthy drink that we try to drink at least two or three times a week. It is rich in multivitamins and antioxidants that help cleanse your digestive system and help increase the rate at which toxins are removed out of your body.

Not only is this juice delicious, it is healthy and full of nutrients.

Vitamin A (no. 1 beauty vitamin) and beta-carotene from carrots helps keep the skin toned and smooth. Vitamin C and polyphenols in apples help protect good cholesterol levels in the blood. Antioxidants and folate in beetroot help keep the blood pressure lower, increase blood flow and it’s great for detoxification.

Anti inflammation properties in ginger help reduce nausea and inflammation. It also aids digestion and help boost body’s metabolism.

I add extra ginger whenever I am feeling under the weather because it perfect for cold relief and pain. If you do not like the ginger flavor in your drink, you can reduce the quantity or altogether not use it. I love ginger in my drink so I always make sure to add extra.

You can also test and try with other veggies and fruits. Experiment and see what fruit or apple you like better than the other and use accordingly.

Sugar, salt and lemon balance out the sour taste of apple. If you have sweet apples you can reduce the amount of sugar. You can replace sugar with honey to make it even healthier.

I love to make this juice quite often. One of the main reasons is I do not have to use the messy juicer. I am not sure if you find it annoying but the mess left after using the juicer is too much for me to clean. To make this detox juice, you do not have to use the juicer.

Simply use the blender the blend all the fruits and vegetables. Then use a strainer or cheesecloth to strain the blend. To make it more liquidy, strain it a few times and use more water.

I love healthier options when they taste great as well. Try this today and see if you would like to include it in your weekly routine.

You know what I think?  Cookies, schmookies. And by Christmastime, I’m willing to bet most people are pretty cookie-d out.  Thankfully, butter is just the gift that keeps on giving, even though where it “gives” tends to be the waistline, but we’re still rocking the holiday fat pants here, so we can ignore that part….

I think this is the first time I’ve ever purposely  made food not for human consumption. I mean, sure, I’ve had my share of kitchen disasters that ended up in the dog bowl – or the trash, if it’s really bad – but I’ve never made non-people-food purely for the sake of feeding the dog.  It…
