Summer brings the season of popsicles and ice creams in our household. If my son and hubby could have their way, they would eat a bowl of rich, creamy and flavorful ice cream everyday, three times day 🙂
I, on the other hand, make sure that they are eating healthier stuff, that is also delicious. So making these dark chocolate covered kiwifruit was a no brainer! These healthy and yummy pops are perfect summer treat on a hot summer day!
Recently I had an opportunity to participate in Zespri Sungold Kiwifruit campaign. I was sent this package with golden kiwifruits and few other accessories. When I cut through into my first golden kiwifruit and scooped out the ripe fruit with the spoon and tasted it, you guys, it was pure bliss. I just couldn’t stop at the first bite, I had to go for my second, third and fourth one.
Simply cut it into two halves. Take one half, scoop out the fruit from it’s skin with spoon and enjoy the juicy sweetness.

Have you heard of golden kiwifruit before? Well, this was my first time trying it. It’s becoming widely available now though, and you can find it in your local supermarket from May to October. What I love about Zespri Golden Kiwifruit is that not only is it super delicious and easy to eat but the number of health benefits it offers is enough to consume it regularly in your daily routine.
Kiwifruit provides with daily Vitamin C needs. As you know, vitamin C has an important role for the proper development and function of the body. They are a natural source of potassium and contain as much potassium as a medium banana. It is also one of very few natural sources of folic acid, needed in pregnancy and growth. Two kiwifruit contain about the same amount of fibre as a bowl of bran flakes.
The Sungold is sweeter than a green kiwifruit and tastes like a cross between a mango and a strawberry. I mean, with so many health benefits, I won’t be thinking twice before feeding this superfruit to my family.
I decided to make these kiwi popsicles covered with dark chocolate. These are extremely easy to make, takes only two ingredients and for you to take out enough time to enjoy as many pops as you want, without feeling any guilt. To make 8 kiwi pops, you will 2 kiwifruit, dark chocolate chips, coconut oil and some lollipop sticks.
Kiwifruit: Simply peel both kiwifruit. Slice into 8 thick slices with lollipop stick in each slice.
Line a baking sheet or cutting board with parchment paper. Place on the parchment paper. Repeat with rest of the slices. Freeze them for an hour or so.
Dark Chocolate: Melt the dark chocolate and coconut oil. You can also use double boiler or microwave to melt chocolate. I used the microwave to melt it. Place the dark chocolate chips or chocolate bark with coconut oil in the microwave safe bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds. Stir the chocolate. Microwave for another 30 seconds. Stir. Repeat until chocolate is melted.
Take out the frozen kiwifruit from the freezer. Dip each kiwi pop in the melted chocolate completely.
The melted chocolate will dry fast because of the frozen kiwi. If you want a layer of peanuts or walnuts, you can sprinkle both sides with your favorite topping. I sprinkled mine with slightly ground peanuts.
Once all the kiwi pops are dipped in chocolate and sprinkled with nuts, place them on the parchment paper again and freeze for another 20 minutes or so.
Results: Absolutely delicious healthy chocolate pops that you won’t be able to stop at eating just one. There, you have been warned. Eat at your own discretion. Enjoy the delicious treat on a hot summer day!
