Simple Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

  • 2 ¼ cups flour
  • ¼ cup cocoa
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • ½ cup butter
  • 1 ½ cups sugar
  • 3 eggs, well-beaten
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Instructions

  • Preheat oven at 350°F (180).
  • Grease and line baking pan with baking paper or lightly dust with flour.
  • Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs and vanilla, beating lightly. Sift flour, cocoa, baking powder and salt. Add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk. Beat mixture well.
  • Bake for 30 minutes or until inserted toothpick comes out clean. Cool completely before frosting.

Notes

Chocolate Buttercream Frosting
Ingredients
4 cups icing sugar
¼ cup unsweetened cocoa (more if you want it darker)
½ cup butter
3 tablespoons milk or cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Directions
1. In a large bowl, combine sugar, cocoa, butter, milk, and vanilla extract.
2. Using an electric mixer, beat at medium speed for 5-10 minutes, until creamy. If too thick, add more milk.
3. Decorate cake as desired.
