Succulent and scrumptious Bbq shrimp recipe. These easy and effortless barbecued shrimp will get you out of the kitchen and into the great outdoors for an easy and tasteful family cookout. With their conveniently limited ingredients, this is a must try recipe.

Grilling shrimp on the barbecue makes them pop with a lip smacking and utterly wonderful taste. I’m not kidding. They are seared and have a nice little crunch that you don’t get when you saute or deep fry. Once you have tasted real barbecued shrimp, you will be wondering where have these beautiful crustaceans been all my life. Even picky children love these shrimp!

When I was young, my Dad used to get these huge shrimp. They were about 4 or 5 inches long. They were so big, they were scarey. One Sunday afternoon, my parents had some guest over for one of our backyard barbecues. They had a 6 year old little girl. She went over to the barbecue grill and saw these gigantic shrimp and said “Oh, drumsticks, I like drumsticks, they are my favorite part of the chicken.” Everyone laughed, but here parents chose not to tell her they were shrimp. Why? Because, she only liked chicken drumsticks.

So if your having a family outing in the backyard, you may as well barbecue some shrimp.

Barbecues and barbecue methods of heating differ greatly. So just be aware that no matter what type of barbecue or heat source you use, the shrimp will cook very quickly.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb large shrimp, deveined and shells removed (20 to a pound)

Marinade:

  • 1/4 cup of olive oil
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • juice of 1/2 lemon
  • 2 drops of Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  • Whisk together olive oil, garlic powder, lemon juice and Worcestershire sauce in a small bowl. place shrimp in a plastic resealable bag. Pour the marinade over the shrimp and seal the bag. Refrigerate and marinate for 2 hours.
  • Thread shrimp on bamboo skewers. Place shrimp on medium hot grill with flame or heat source at least 6 to 8 inches from shrimp. The shrimp will cook very quickly 3 to 4 minutes maximum. Turn once during cooking. Watch them very closely.

Notes

I always sprinkle a little Parmesan cheese on my shrimp as soon as they come off the grill. Serve with French fries and cold slaw.
Tip: Often times I will wrap each of the shrimp in a half a piece of bacon. I partially cook the bacon in the microwave. Then wrap it around the shrimp prior to putting them on the grill. I secure the bacon ends with a toothpick. The bacon gives the shrimp an added flavor and, my family likes it.
Note: Here is another grilled shrimp marinade your family might enjoy.
2 large cloves of garlic, smashed
1 serrano chili, seeded and chopped
3/4 cup pineapple juice
3 tbls lemon juice
3 tbls olive oil
1 tbl chopped fresh cilantro leaves
1. Place all ingredients in a jar with a lid and shake well to mix. Place shrimp in a resealable plastic bag and pour marinade over shrimp. Marinate in the refrigerator for 2 hours.
2. After marinating, place shrimp on medium hot barbecue grill at least 6 to 8 inches form the coals or heat source. Cook about 3 to 4 minutes or until shrimp began to turn pink. Yurn once during cooking. Serve with rice.
