Grilling shrimp on the barbecue makes them pop with a lip smacking and utterly wonderful taste. I’m not kidding. They are seared and have a nice little crunch that you don’t get when you saute or deep fry. Once you have tasted real barbecued shrimp, you will be wondering where have these beautiful crustaceans been all my life. Even picky children love these shrimp!
When I was young, my Dad used to get these huge shrimp. They were about 4 or 5 inches long. They were so big, they were scarey. One Sunday afternoon, my parents had some guest over for one of our backyard barbecues. They had a 6 year old little girl. She went over to the barbecue grill and saw these gigantic shrimp and said “Oh, drumsticks, I like drumsticks, they are my favorite part of the chicken.” Everyone laughed, but here parents chose not to tell her they were shrimp. Why? Because, she only liked chicken drumsticks.
So if your having a family outing in the backyard, you may as well barbecue some shrimp.
Barbecues and barbecue methods of heating differ greatly. So just be aware that no matter what type of barbecue or heat source you use, the shrimp will cook very quickly.
