Preheat oven to 325 degrees F. Lightly grease two 9x5 inch loaf pans.
In a large mixing bowl, combine sugar and butter; beat with an electric blender. Add eggs and beat until smooth, light and fluffy. Add pumpkin puree and beat until well blended.
In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves and salt.
Add dry ingredients to wet pumpkin mixture and blend until all ingredients are mixed. Add the batter between prepared pans.
Bake in preheated oven for about 1 1/2 hour or until toothpick comes out clean.
Serve the slices fresh out of oven with coffee.
