Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 bell pepper, chopped finely
  • 1 small can tomato paste, plus one can of water
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 3/4 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3/4 tsp dry mustard
  • 1/2 cup cup shredded cheddar cheese (optional)
  • 6 hamburger buns

Instructions

  • In a large cast iron skillet, saute meat, onions and bell pepper until cooked. Drain oil from skillet.
  • Add tomato paste, water, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce and mustard. Simmer for about 10 minutes for sauce to reduce and thicken. Serve on warm buttered hamburger buns topped with cheddar cheese for an extra tasty sloppy joe.

Ingredients:
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1 onion, chopped
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp oregano or 1 tsp of basil leaves
1 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 16 oz can stewed tomatoes with juice
1 8 oz can tomato sauce
1/4 cup of water
1 cup quick cooking rice
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
Preparation:
1. Saute ground beef and onion in cast iron skillet. Add garlic powder, oregano, salt and pepper and continue to cook. Drain any oil from meat.
2. Add stewed tomatoes, tomato sauce, water and rice. Bring to a boil. Lower heat, cover and simmer for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Remove cover add cheese and stir. Serve this rice dish with some green beans and a tomato salad with oil and vinegar.
